Living With Spirit – FAQ
Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions regarding the program:
Living with Spirit is a youth program, an introduction to “yogic living”, a community-based immersion program designed to allow you to explore and dive deeper into the teachings of yoga. For many, it’s a place to get in touch with your inner self, a space to awaken or re-energize your spiritual search.
It’s a week of joy and depth, set in the structure of an international group of enthusiastic young adults seeking to explore the same topics around spirituality; namely, “how do we connect more truly to ourselves and to each other?”

What are the requirements for this program?
This programs serves youth between the ages of 18 and 29. This is a guideline and we are open to having a conversation with folks who see this program as a fit for them and yet who are outside of this age bracket.
However, there are not many formal requirements for this program despite following Ananda’s guidelines that state Ananda a strictly drug, alcohol and smoke-free environment.
It’s designed for young people who are interested in spiritual living and seeking deeper meaning in life. Perhaps you are curious, open-minded, joyful, a little crazy, creative, or adventurous? Our participants encompass nature-lovers, city-girls, metal smiths, rock climbers, acro yogis—all sorts of people!
Even though what we present comes from the teachings of yoga philosophy as taught by the Indian mystic, Paramhansa Yogananda, we welcome people from all backgrounds and walks of life and seek to nurture an open, inclusive community that allows people to be themselves and feel appreciated for their unique soul-qualities.

The facilitators of the program are young adults who grew up at Ananda: Ruby Stoppe, Rachel Andersen, Giulia Berti and other young & longtime, inspiring Ananda members. Among them, they have more than seventy years of experience living in intentional, spiritual community, and following the spiritual teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda. Each one of them brings their own unique passions and gifts to the group.
IN SUMMER (June – September)
All the participants camp together in Deva Loka: an intimate forested campground on the actual grounds of Ananda, within a five minute walk to the main guest facility and Ananda’s beautiful Temple of Light. We will use the bathrooms in the nearby residential facility, and also those of the larger retreat. We camp together because it creates a magical and magnetic feeling of connection; both with each other and with nature. In effect, we form a little tribe, where at the end, it’s feels like you’ve gained a new, second family.
Waking up to morning dew and a blazing sunrise, going to bed with a mesmerizing campfire, under the starry sky—it’s the best way to enjoy summer.
DURING THE YEAR (October – May)
We would like to sleep outside all year long, but as we are on 800m above sea level it is not possible unless you are an inuit. 😉
Therefore we accommodate you in simple, but comfortable dormitories where you can still stay together (well, women and men separate of cause^^) and most important stay warm!

As we are a very international team (Ruby is German, Rachel is American, and Giulia Italian) we speak a lot of English, as well as Italian and even German. If your English skills are a little rusty, don’t worry, we will have translation in Italian as needed. Also, if German is your native language and your English or Italian are shaky, we have the ability to translate from English to German. What a team! Of course, always available to everyone are some of the most powerful mediums of communication: body language, intuition, smiles and laughter—which never fail.
Curiosity and interest are enough to get you started on this journey. Typically, we have a very mixed group with some longtime meditators as well new folks, and so we try to make time and space for both realities to co-exist; i.e. give extra time for the folks who love to meditate to stay longer, and yet we “officially” close each meditation early enough to not overwhelm the newer folks.

When does it start?
It depends on the program. We advise you to look carefully at the indications in your particular course so you make sure to get here at the right time. Often the courses or start in the late afternoon or after dinner in the evening.
We strongly recommend arriving on time so you can get settled (pitch your tent or find your accommodation) and relax before our orientation. Living with Spirit facilitators will be around on the arrival afternoon to help people set up and feel comfortable in our beautiful community. Plan to arrive as early as you can!
How can I join?
Give our front office a ring or write them an email (firstname.lastname@example.org). They will need to know your name, address, email, age and phone number. Then, you’ll need to pay the €50 deposit. As a last step, we will contact you to make sure you feel comfortable in your understanding of the program, answer any questions you may have, and just generally check-in about the program. We look forward to having you join us!
How much does it costs?

Living with Spirit is a low-cost program, because we would like to make it accessable to all. If you need a lower price point and are willing to work 1.5 hours each day, you can do our Karma Yoga option, which will mainly be cleaning in the kitchen. It’s called Yoga in Action in Action 1.
